IEW:
Our new structure is retelling a narrative store. We will not be finding key words in each sentence.  Instead, you will choose key words by asking questions about the story using a story sequence chart.  The story sequence chart is on page 63.  We will be working on a paragraph a day. The story of "The Fox and the Crow" will take two weeks to complete.

Vocab words - The only vocab words that can be used for bonus points are the two that we are studying that week.  The vocab words cannot count as a dress-up and a bonus point.  If you use the word twice in the paper then one can be the dress-up and the other one a bonus point.

The KWO does not have to attached and turned in.  The only things that will need to be turned in is the checklist, FD, and the RD.

Science presentation:
This Thursday, 10/9 the students will present a science presentation to the class.  They can pick any topic in chapters 1-4 that they have enjoyed learning about. They can present what they learned about the topic, what about that topic intrigued them, how does this impact our life, or why they think God chose to design our world that way.  The presentation needs to be at least 3 sentences.  They need to write them down in their science journal on the page labeled science presentation.  They will turn in their science journal after the presentation to be graded.  They can read their information however they will need to look at their notes and then look up to speak.  The same process as for an oral retell in IEW.  They can also bring an item in that goes with their presentation.   I have listed two examples below.  This will be a test grade.

Tides: I have been to the beach and love playing in the ocean that comes on the beach. I learned that the reason the ocean that comes up on the beach is called a tide. The tide is caused by the moon. As the moon goes through the different phases the tides change the amount that they flow onto the beach. I think that it is amazing how God made the moon effect the oceans on Earth.

Killer Whales: Killer whales are my favorite animal. They are really called orcas. Orcas live in family groups their whole lives. They are amazing hunter. They are also very smart. I loved learning more about orcas or killer whales.

Historical Dress Up Day/Masquerade Ball:
Historical dress up day will be October 30th this year.  We are going to have a masquerade ball to end the day on the 30th.  We will be studying Louis XIV in history.  On Tuesday October 21st we will be making paper a mask for history.  I will keep them for the next week when we have the masquerade ball.  They can use the mask that they make in class or if you want you are welcome to buy one.  I will tell them they can decorate their mask to match the costume they are going to wear if they want.  Costumes must be in the theme of our historic studies this year, which will cover The Holy Roman Empire (1550) through the World of the Forty-Nine(1850).  Costume Guidelines: No weapons, no gore, nothing scary, students need to be able to move and sit properly and use the restroom on their own. Have fun thinking of ideas.
