Review/Test on Some One

* Ocean boxes should be brought up to the classroom on Tuesday morning. If your child needs help, an adult may deliver the box to the classroom during assembly. Please do not allow unsupervised children in the room. The boxes should be placed on the black tables which will be pushed against the back wall.

**Children may bring a favorite indoor game from home if desired. We have several games in the classroom already. They also may bring a small pillow (one that fits in their backpack) for movie time.

It’s been a joy to watch your children grow in wisdom and virtue this school year! I hope you all enjoy some rest and relaxation this summer break. However, remember our mutual goal of encouraging the habits of life-long learners. Some ideas for you:

  • Read together daily.

  • Write regularly. (i.e. write letters to friend or relatives, keep a journal of summer activities or reading, continue working in the unfinished handwriting book.)

  • Practice math facts and problem-solving skills often.

  • Read independently daily.

In Christ,

Jan Windsor

CLT Testing:

I will be administering sections of a standardized achievement test, the Classical Learning Test, this week. The CLT is not a timed test. However, the guidelines suggest 40-90 minutes be allotted each day. I am planning to test between 9:20 and 11:50 each day. We will complete part one and take a small break. Then complete part two. We’ll fit math in each day after the CLT, but complete the rest of the listed blog assignments in order only as time and attention spans allow.

While this is low stakes testing, it is important that your child come to school each day on time and be prepared to do his best. Please make sure that your student is well rested and has eaten a good breakfast. Also, please send quick, easy snacks, a filled water bottle, and a book for your child to read if they finish a section early.  Any snack that requires a spoon or fork, such a yogurt or fruit cups, should be reserved for lunch.

IEW:   This week we’ll begin our final writing project. Students will write a 3-paragraph composition about one animal we have read about in science.  They  should choose 3 of the most appropriate sub-topics from this list: Physical Characteristics, Habitat, Feeding Habits, and/or Movement. IEW dress-ups, decorations, and sentence openers will be required for each paragraph. Students should bring their science books to class both days this week OR a photocopy of the text needed for each day’s KWO. The latter would give students an opportunity to physically highlight information they find most relevant.

Our planned writing schedule:

04/16 - 1st Paragraph KWO

04/17 - 2nd Paragraph KWO

04/18 - 3rd Paragraph KWO

04/19 - Write an introductory sentence about the chosen animal. Example: Orcas are unique creatures in the way they look, hunt, and move about the ocean. Then write your RD for paragraph 1.

04/24 - Indent and write RD for paragraph 2.

04/26 - Indent write RD for paragraph 3. Add the final clincher sentence. Parents proofread.

04/30 - FD of paragraph 1

05/01 - FD of paragraph 2

05/02 - FD of paragraph 3

05/03 – Proofread. Label, underline, and highlight required elements. Turn in Tuesday, 05/07.
