Composition:
In this lesson students will write two paragraphs about two different topics.  They again will have two sources related to each topic.  For each topic the students will write two KWO and a fused KWO.  Students will need to pick out which facts go with the related topic.
Tuesday: Introduce the new concept.  Highlight five supporting facts in each paragraph for each topic.
Wednesday: Make two KWO pg 168 and the fused KWO pg 169.  The Topic for these KWO is the description.
Thursday: Make two KWO pg 170 and the fused KWO pg 171.  The Topic for these KWO is the voyage.

Reading:
We will read "Little Pilgrim's Progress" through the end of the year.  The students will be completing a jounral on this book as if they were on the journey that Christian and later Christiana are taking.  Your child will write an entry everyday about how they would feel, think, what they might do if they were in the same situation as Christian.  Every Tuesday and Thursday they will read four chapters.  They will write the date and one entry about what happened that day and how they would feel or what they saw, ect.  The entry needs to be at least three complete sentences.  They will be making two entries every week.  Some examples from past students are below.

March 3 – I was excited to see the village and I a little nervous that the path was wrong.  When I got to the Wicket Gate I was happy to rest.  When I got up to continue the journey I was excited to see the Interpreter.

March 24 – I was walking through the Dark Valley when I saw light.  I knew it was daytime and excited to get out.  Then I overtook Faithful by running up to him!

March -3 I leave the laughs of my playmates behind and move toward the King.  The marsh swallows me and Help finds me.  I may not have gotten out alive if Help had not found me.  My emotions are mixed and I feel sorrow for I want to get to the Wicket Gate in time to see my mother and the King.  I will complete any task necessary to get to the Celestial City.

Science presentation:
Thursday 3/13 the students will present a science presentation to the class.  They can pick any topic in chapters 8-11 that they have enjoyed learning about. They can present what they learned about the topic, what about that topic intrigued them, how does this impact our life, or why they think God chose to design our world that way.  The presentation needs to be at least 3 sentences.  They need to write them down in their science journal on the page labeled science presentation.  They will turn in their science journal after the presentation to be graded.  They can read their information however they will need to look at their notes and then look up to speak.  The same process as for an oral retell in IEW.  They can also bring an item in that goes with their presentation.   I have listed two examples below.  This will be a test grade.

Tides: I have been to the beach and love playing in the ocean that comes on the beach. I learned that the reason the ocean that comes up on the beach is called a tide. The tide is caused by the moon. As the moon goes through the different phases the tides change the amount that they flow onto the beach. I think that it is amazing how God made the moon effect the oceans on Earth.

Killer Whales: Killer whales are my favorite animal. They are really called orcas. Orcas live in family groups their whole lives. They are amazing hunter. They are also very smart. I loved learning more about orcas or killer whales.
